Student Drivers Announced for 2012 Season
The University of Northwestern Ohio is proud to announce the students who were selected as drivers and crew chiefs for the High Performance Motorsports Team during the 2012 season.
The drivers for the two UMP Modified cars are Kody Weisner (Muskegon, Mich.) and Ryan O’Dette (Kingsford, Mich.). Weisner is in his third year on the team, all as a driver; he ran a half season in a stock car and 1 ½ seasons in a modified. Weisner has two feature wins at Limaland Motorsports Park, in a stock and a modified. O’Dette is also a third-year member; he drove a stock car in his first season and was a crew member last year. Andy Mattord (Iron Mountain, Mich.) is the alternate driver.
The drivers for the stock cars will rotate throughout the season. Four first-year members will start the season behind the wheel – Dwight Neihoff (Lockwood, Mo.), Brent Weaver (Jerseyville, Ill.), Shane Wolf (Susquehanna, Penn.) and Brad Kemp (Clarksville, Ind.). The other eligible drivers for the stock car are Josh Sutter (Brownsburg, Ind.), Cody Dawson (Harpers Ferry, W.Va.), Joel Ortberg (Sardinia, Ohio), Sebastian Font (Old Bridge, N.J.), Mitch O’Patik (Wiggins, Colo.), Luke Shostkewitz (Milford, N.J.), Nick Wojcik (Ladysmith, Wis.) and Austin Frankart (Tiffin, Ohio).
Crew chiefs for the stock cars are Anthony Paupore (Kingsford, Mich.), Sutter, O’Patik and Wojcik. Crew chiefs for the modifieds are Matthew Custer (Alum Bank, Penn.) and Mattord.
Every student at UNOH is eligible to apply for the High Performance Motorsports Team. Students must attend a meeting in October, supply a professional resume and two letters of recommendation, a letter stating why they should be a member of the team and have a valid driver’s license, all while maintaining a 2.5 GPA.
In order to be considered for the drivers spots, team members must compose a separate letter stating why they should be a driver and maintain a 3.2 GPA. At the end of March, the potential drivers were given try outs at Limaland, where the coaches looked for competent control of the vehicle, track awareness and other factors.
The UNOH High Performance Motorsports Team begins its seventh season Friday, April 20, at Limaland.
