UNOH to Host Region 2 Optimist Oratorical Contest
The University of Northwestern Ohio is proud to host the upcoming Region 2 Optimist Oratorical Contest. The contest will be held May 5, 2012 from 9:30am until 12:30pm in the 600 Building on the UNOH campus. The contest is open to the public.
Started in 1928, the Oratorical Contest is the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for you to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship. It is open to any student under the age of 18 as of December, 31, 2011 who has not graduated from high school.
The Students competing at this regional event have already been judged at an Optimist Club level. Club winners proceed to the Zone level and then come to the Regional level to compete with others from a five zone area. The winning boy and girl from the Region 2 contest qualify for the District Contest to be held in Columbus, Ohio My 19, 2012. The winning boy and girl at the District level will receive a $3,500 scholarship!
Currently students competing at the Region 2 contest are from Troy, Beavercreek, Lima, Elida, Van Wert, and Ohio City
