LIMA – The University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team is proud to announce nine baseball players have been selected to the All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference team.
Pitchers Zach Petrick and Austin Park, and outfielder Ben Smith were named to the first team. Pitchers Juan Espinosa and Pichi Torres, infielders Dylan Brammer and Ben Schubert, catcher Cory Cook, and designated hitter Kevin Cyrus appear on the honorable mention list.
Petrick went 5-3 in 15 appearances and a team-best 12 starts this season with a 2.67 ERA. He led the Racers with 77 2/3 innings pitched and 71 strikeouts. Park was 5-0 with a team-leading 19 appearances, with a 0.96 ERA and 29 strikeouts.
Smith batted .325 with 39 hits in 120 at bats; he was among the UNOH leaders in slugging percentage (.592), on base percentage (.444), triples (6), home runs (5), total bases (71), walks (22), sacrifice flies (4) and stolen bases (18).
Espinosa tied with Park for a team-leading five wins, going 5-1 with a 3.82 ERA and 25 strikeouts. Torres was 2-0 with a 0.64 ERA, while batting .362 with 50 hits, 29 runs scored, 33 RBIs and 10 doubles.
Brammer batted .298 in 151 at bats (second on the team) and leading the Racers with 49 games played. He led the team with 38 runs, 41 RBIs and 30 walks, adding 16 stolen bases. Schubert had a breakout season, finishing in the top-5 on the team in batting average (.348), runs (34), hits (55), RBIs (32), triples (3), total bases (71) and stolen bases (6).
Cook batted .350 with 21 RBIs and two home runs. He played in 32 games during his freshman year, starting 24 behind the plate. Cyrus provided some boom for the lineup, with a .525 slugging percentage, 15 doubles, three home runs and 34 RBIs.
Smith was named to the Champions of Character team, and Robert Riley, Ryan Staton, Park and Cyrus were named to the All-Academic Team.
