The 2012 Amsoil Engine Masters Challenge will be held at the University of Northwestern Ohio’s High Performance Motorsports Complex located at 1744 Hartzler Road in Lima, Ohio, October 1st through 5th. The University has proved to be an ideal setting for the Engine Masters Challenge and UNOH is proud to host the event for a sixth straight year. Assisting with the competition will be the faculty from UNOH’s High Performance Division, including division heads Randy Lucius and Paul Higgins, and forty students from the university’s College of Applied Technologies program.
The 2012 Amsoil Engine Masters Challenge is presented by Source Interlink Media, publishers of Popular Hot Rodding, and many other related magazines. This is the largest, most renowned, dyno racing event in the world and the 2012 competition is bound to be better than ever! This competition has been likened to the “Super Bowl of Engine Building”. The 41 engine building teams and 12 alternate teams from all over the United States and Canada work for months preparing and building their engines. At the event, those engines are hooked up to dynos on UNOH’s campus to measure their raw performance numbers.
This year the competition will continue the tradition started last year with engines going head to head in two divisions – the Street Division and the Extreme Street Division. The Street Division must follow a strict set of rules and regulations whereas Extreme Street is a no-holds-barred division! Competitors could see horsepower numbers in excess of 1,000, roughly doubling the power of a typical Chevy Camero.
The University of Northwestern Ohio is the only High Performance/Motorsports University to ever host the Challenge. The Challenge puts more than 40 talented engine builders in one place to see who can build the most powerful engine. After a series of dyno tests that measure torque and horsepower, the top engine builder from each division is ultimately crowned 2012 AMSOIL Engine Master.
